Maybe they're tweaking the preamps as well. Looks like the new v2 ups the sampling rate from an already large 96kHz to 192kHz. I guess you could also use a second condenser mic if you ran one through a powered xlr to 1/4 converter. That will work fine with 2 dynamic mics (one unbalanced which is okay if cable is short) or 2 instruments if one is going through a DI. The solo has one balanced input and one instrument input.

A must if you are going to use a pair of condenser mics. The 2i2 has the 1/4 xlr combined inputs, each with 48v. The biggest difference is flexibility of the inputs. With reamping you can just send your good take into the amp and tweak until you have something you like. This is what I'd recommend for guitar especially, as it can be difficult to correctly place a mic on a cab without a lot of experience, and if you end up not liking a guitar tone, you'll have to re-mic the amp, completely re-record the track, and hope you get a good take. If you plan on recording an amp, I'd highly recommend a 2-channel interface. If all you plan to use is DI tracks for amp sims or reamping, then a 1-channel interface is perfectly adequate. This gives you more options in post production, including reamping if you end up needing to change your bass tone but you don't want to record another track. You can plug your bass into a DI, send one output directly into your interface, then another output into your amp, then mic up the cabinet and plug that into the interface. If you do any recording with an amp cabinet, it's generally a good idea to have an input for your mic, but also an input for a DI signal. Subtle distinction, but it means you can actually use multiple inputs for one instrument. Well, it's not just that you can record two instruments at once, it's so that you can have two inputs at once. Similarly, please send any comments or critiques to the moderators.
